Numbers 28- Daily Offerings
1-15- This passage regulates offerings for the DAILY (1-8)...WEEKLY (9-10)...MONTHLY (11-15) offerings.
9-10- A doubling of the offerings probably in recognition of God’s double portion prior to the sabbath.
16-31- A recount of the feasts and regulations pertaining to each one.
Numbers 29- Offerings at the Feast of Trumpets
- 1-6- Opened a brand new agricultural year
- 6- Grain offering- an offering or tribute to God but could also be to a ruler
- 6- New moon- First day of their 28 day month
- 12-39- The Feast of Tabernacles commemorated Israel’s wandering in the wilderness and the end of the harvest.
Numbers 30- Law concerning Vows
- 1-16- The conditions under which a release from a VOW may be granted are discussed here. God, through Moses, established a new legal system for a newly formed nation. A vow was taken seriously and to recant one would require a certain set of rules. The hierarchy of the family structure of the culture is evident here. It is important to note that the woman has an independent relationship to God.
- 1- Heads of the tribes- Is used only here in the entire Pentateuch. The authoritarian structure of tribe and family is thus introduced at the outset of this section.
- 5- To release her is to forgive her.
- 13- To afflict her soul is to fast or use self denial
