Judges 1:2021

Finally, the activity of the Spirit of the Lord in the Book of Judges is clearly portrayed in the charismatic leadership of the period. The following heroic deeds of Othniel, Gideon, Jephthah and Samson are attributed to the Spirit of the Lord. 

Judges 1- Continuing Conquest of Canaan
  • 1- No manly leader exists now except the priesthood and that is where the people ask God what the next move is.
  • 2- SEND JUDAH FIRST…..PRAISE FOR GOD PROCEEDS EVERYTHING ELSE ...IT'S ALSO THE TRIBE JESUS WILL COME FROM. IT ALSO DATES BACK TO THE BLESSING OF JACOB (GEN 49:8)
  • 6- Cutting off fingers and toes was common practice as they could no longer hold a sword or keep their footing in battle
  • 8- They didn’t take Jerusalem until David took it in 1000 BC. Judah had FAILED to clear out the Jebusites
  • 9-13- Caleb moves on into his promised inheritance ...as a senior citizen!
  • 14-15- KINGDOM WOMEN DEMAND A BLESSING ...NO PERSON STANDS IN THEIR WAY
  • 13- OTHNIEL- the first major judge
  • 16- Jethro Moses' father-in -law was a priest of Midian. The City of Palms probably refers to Jericho and its Oasis.
  • 17- Hormah means DESTRUCTION….the new name of that place…..valley region of southern Judah
  • 18- Gaza is where the Philistine giants lived.
  • 19- Judah gave reasons why they couldn’t drive out the pagan tribes...chariots of steel. The real reason is that they didn’t obey the MOSAIC covenant (Judges 2:1-3, 20, 21).
  • 21- Benjamin also failed to secure the region
  • 22-26- Spies used again and a man of peace was found to help take the town. Once again their WORD was good and that man resettled another region and built a city of his own.
  • 27-36- The conquest of Canaan was incomplete because the Israelites were disobedient and failed to carry out God’s plan (Ex 34:11-16)
  • 28- The tribe of Manasseh put the Canaanites to forced labor
  • 34-36- It took a while for Dan to secure most of their land as well...there was resistance.

Pastor Ron Moore, Jr. has been credentialed with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) since 1987 and ordained since 2003.
